The Puerto Armuelles area of Chiriqui Province in Panama is once again seeing it’s day in the sun. The region has been seeing increasing visibility as a close to Costa Rica beach community. With increasing economic activity and more expats discovering the area each day, Puerto Armuelles was already on its way to become a more highly recognized expat and investment destination.
In a sign of the times, the government has now awarded a $21 million contract to build a second new pier, dock and seafood market. The impact of the new infrastructure will invigorate the region with meaningful economic ripple effects. Plus, it will look great. Such a high-profile image upgrade directly related to economic development is sure to produce dividends in the area.
The ASOBUZ consortium, comprising Panamanian company “Administración y Supervisión de Obras Civiles, S.A.” and Colombian company “BUZCA” Soluciones de Ingeniería, S.A., have already been awarded the $21 million contract.
Excerpt: “The AMP is convinced that this project will directly benefit the economy of the district of Baru and the province of Chiriqui in general, since during its construction it will generate direct and indirect jobs and once the works are completed it will impact the fishing sector, tourism and the auxiliary maritime industry. In this way, the National Government fulfills the promise of generating public works in productive sectors to boost the local economy and the social development of the communities.”
