Keep in mind that some trails are not well-marked, so it's best to go with a guide. Beginner and experienced hikers alike should start their day on the La India Dormida trail, where you can watch the sunrise from one of the area's most popular viewpoints. This beautiful circular hike will take you about 45 minutes from start to finish, taking you to the top where you can take in the epic views before returning down the edge of the crater.

Just outside of Valle de Anton, you can hike to Cerro La Gaita. This one-hour hike will take you through a dense tropical jungle and up wooden steps that rise above the canopy. At the top, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking views of all the surrounding mountains and the beautiful Lake San Carlos.

Experienced hikers can tackle what some consider the most difficult trail in Panama, Cerro Gaital. This intense hike takes you through dense tropical rainforest and steep vertical rock climbs before reaching the summit, where you'll be rewarded with stunning views of the entire valley.

For more nature activities, there is Chorro el Macho, a massive waterfall in the area. If you enjoy regular healing soaks, visit the local Thermal Pools, located on the west side of town.

You can also visit the El Nispero Zoo to see the Panamanian golden frog, which is extinct in the wild. Today, the National Zoo and the Smithsonian's Institute for Conservation Biology, along with the Panama Golden Frog Survival Program, are working on a plan to return them to the wild, but you can see them up close and personal at the El Nispero Zoo.

Sundays in El Valle, one can enjoy the local farmers market, where you can find fresh produce and handmade crafts.

Culture is rich here too. In El Valle is The Anton Museum, which showcases the town's history and cultural traditions.
