SpaceX, the company owned by billionaire Elon Musk, will launch its Starlink satellite internet system in Panama with the support of the National Authority for Government Innovation (AIG).
According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industries in Panama, “Panama will become one of the few countries in the region to have the services of this prestigious company, which strategically positions us as a reference in innovation.”
The institution also discussed with SpaceX about how the country could collaborate on initiatives that positively impact connectivity, education and economic reactivation of the country.
The new trade minister, Federico Alfaro Boyd, said on his social networks that in the search for strategic allies and leaders in innovation, SpaceX will soon install its Starlink satellite internet, “reaching areas of difficult access” without specifying the date, and the amount of investment to develop the project.
“We are proud to coordinate innovative initiatives!”, he added.
Starlink satellite internet has the potential to greatly benefit Panama in several ways. The ability to provide internet access to remote and difficult-to-reach areas can have a positive impact on connectivity, education, and economic reactivation in these areas. This can be especially beneficial for rural and low-income communities that have traditionally had limited access to high-speed internet.
Additionally, having widespread internet access can also be beneficial for the real estate industry in Panama. International buyers for real estate may be more likely to consider properties in remote areas if they have access to reliable internet. This can open up new opportunities for development in these areas and potentially increase the value of properties in these areas.
